Aim: to retell a Greek Myth

The Daedalus and Icarus Myth

Activity 1

Read one of the attached versions of the Icarus myth. I will also upload a video version for you to watch.

What is a myth? If you have forgotten I will upload a poster to remind you of the key elements.

Activity 2

Have a go at retelling it to see if you remember it. A good way to do this is to time yourself - give yourself 2 minutes to retell it. Then reduce your time to 1 minute, then 30 seconds. It forces you to edit the story and only retell the most important bits!

IF you are really struggling to remember the story, why not do a quick 'text map' (see picture below) to help you recall the key events in order. These are quick picture versions of the story.

Activity 3

Writing task choice. Choose ONE of these options to complete today:

1 - Create a story board of the Icarus myth retelling the key events

2 - Rewrite the story (two pages maximum is plenty)

3 - Use an app like storybook creator or puppet pals to create an animated version of the story

The myth of Icarus and Daedalus - Amy Adkins

Wondering what a text map looks like to help you recall a story? Here is an example!

Here is an optional storyboard template to use if you wish...
