Welcome to Year 4

Teacher - Miss Vertigans

LSA - Mrs Horwood and Mrs Griffin

We have lots of helpers that come in and help during the week too! A huge thank you to Mrs Harding who teaches French and Mrs Worthy with music. Thank you to our handy reading helpers, Mr Cheater and Mrs Townsend!

Homework is sent home on a Friday and is due in the following Thursday.

Please make sure PE kit is in school every day.

Now that we are in Year 4, we must remember to bring in:

  • Our reading records and book bags
  • A water bottle
  • Our packed lunch
  • P.E. kit (to be kept in school)

Our PE lessons are on a Tuesday afternoon and a Wednesday morning. Please make sure that you have your kit for these days, as it is very important that we all take part! An easier option would be to keep your kit in school at all times.

Egypt Dress Up day

On Thursday 13th December, Year 4 dressed up and we time travelled back in time to Ancient Egypt for the day. We first learned about the Egyptian Numeric system and explored Ancient Egyptian numbers up to one million. Afterwards, we were told the story of the gods and created our very own Egyptian gods which we were most excited about! We also designed and constructed our very own step pyramids out of sugar cubes and created our own miniature Egyptian mummies. Lastly, we wrote our own names using hieroglyphics. Overall, we had an excellent day! Have a look at our pictures below to see what we got up to! 😊

Egyptology day

On Thursday 18th October, year 4 took part in an Egyptology day. We had a visitor come in, Ali Ball, who is an expert in Egyptology and she spoke come to us about a range of different topics associated with Ancient Egypt. Firstly, we learned about how to think like an Egyptologist and looked at various artefacts that were used during this era. We then looked at using Egyptian numerals and played bingo to test what we had discovered. After break, we wrote our names using Egyptian hieroglyphs and learned some Ancient Egyptian to pray to Pharaoh and Lady of the land. We had great fun! Last but not least, we were told a tale about how Osiris became the god of mummification and were able to design our own Ancient Egyptian monsters in the afternoon. Congratulations to Henry for winning the Egyptian gem of determination at the end of the day for contributing to class discussion and persevering with your learning. Well done everyone!

Computing-Using QR codes

In our computing lesson last week, we used QR codes and the i-nigma app to complete our research on Snow Leopards. We found lots of interesting information about them and created a fact file to present our findings.
